What is REST?

REST (Representational State Transfer) is an architecture style for systems on the Internet. REST principles involve using existing protocols and standards, such as HTTP, URI and XML, to build a robust and scalable system. REST is often used to build web services, as it is a simple and flexible way to access and reuse data. One of the advantages of REST is that it is an easy-to-learn and intuitive way to build systems. There are no complicated rules or conventions to follow, but you can easily create a REST service by using existing protocols and standards. However, there are some general principles that should be followed to create a REST service: -A REST service must be stateless, that is to say that each request must be able to be processed independently of previous requests. -A REST service must be cacheable, that is, it must be possible to cache responses from the service to improve performance. -A REST service must be scalable, i.e. it must be possible to easily add new functions and resources without affecting existing services. -A REST service must be open, i.e. it must be possible to easily connect new systems and clients to the service.
