What is Network Security?
Network security is an area of computer and network engineering concerned with ensuring that a network functions properly and that data passing through the network is secure. Network security includes everything from firewalls and antivirus software to encryption and built-in security features in network components. An important part of network security is keeping track of who has access to the network and to which parts of the network. There are different ways to do this, for example by using usernames and passwords or more advanced techniques such as encryption and digital signatures. Network security is a much broader field than just computer network security. It also includes security in telecommunications networks, wireless networks and mobile networks. Network security is also an important part of the security of industrial control systems and other systems that use networks to communicate.
