What is LDAP?
LDAP is a protocol used to retrieve and manipulate information in a central database. It is often used to manage user information on a network, such as usernames, passwords and group memberships. LDAP is a flexible protocol and can be used to retrieve information from different types of databases. It is usually faster and easier to use LDAP to retrieve information from a database than to use other protocols, such as SQL. LDAP can be used to retrieve information from various types of databases, such as Active Directory, eDirectory and OpenLDAP. LDAP is also a protocol used to synchronize information between different databases. There are many different tools for using LDAP, such as Apache Directory Studio and phpLDAPadmin.
