What is Chemical Engineering?
Chemical Engineering is an area of engineering that focuses on understanding and managing chemical processes. A chemical engineer uses principles from chemistry, physics, mathematics and economics to design and operate processes that transform raw materials into useful products. Within chemical engineering, one can work in various industries such as pharmaceuticals, food, petrochemicals and environmental technology. A chemical engineer may be responsible for optimizing production processes, developing new materials, or working to minimize pollution and manage waste. There are other branches of engineering that have a similar focus to Chemical Engineering, including Petroleum Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Environmental Engineering. Although these fields share some principles and techniques, they have different applications and areas of focus.
